“Auditor” is a truly brilliant work of MV Gogol, there is no person who would not hear the phrase: “Auditor comes to us.” Comedy is written easily in the genre of the grotesque and therefore reads quickly, with pleasure and with ease. But despite the simplicity of the play, the questions raised by the author and the depth of the creation is not as simple as it seems at first glance.
Of course, at the heart of creation is the theme of the officials of their arbitrariness and immorality, but it should not be forgotten that the positions are always people with their weaknesses and defects. This is the problem raised by M.V. Garrot. The author deals with forbidden topics, those issues that are not accepted as dirty linen.
The plot of the work “The Examiner” is unfolding in a provincial county town, located somewhere off the beaten track: “From here, though, jump for three years, you will not reach any state.” City N is run by a hiker who takes advantage of his plight and impunity, creating arbitrariness – stealing treasury and accepting bribes in any equivalent. What about him, that other officials have a very peculiar understanding of the welfare of the city and its residents.
Everything is perceived through the prism of profit, completely forgetting about morality and moral values. Yes, the money earmarked for the construction of the church has long been stolen. The city is desolate, dirty in the hospital, patients look like smiths and smoke tobacco, in court watch, raise geese and dry things, teachers grimace and make faces to students. They do not buy medicine because of the judgment: “if he dies, then he will die; if he recovers, then he recovers, “so people in the county town” like flies recover. ” The police, instead of performing their duties, are outraging, drinking and beating citizens. But at the same time the gardener “firmly in the faith” and every Sunday attends church.
All this familiar way of life is changed by the news of the auditor’s arrival. The city administration, fearing an hour of reckoning, worrying and trying to hide its sins, mistakenly admits a completely different person to the auditor – Khlestakov, who in a comedy speaks to the officials. He is from a completely different environment, and is foolish, not far-off, boastful “without a king in his head.” But it is this immediacy that misleads the city authorities.
Officials, however, accustomed to judge for themselves, in every way try to please the lie-auditor and tip him a bribe, thus, not forgetting to report on each other. Khlestakov, however, a greedy man, very quickly seizes on the possibility of easy money, and with a decent sum leaves the city, leaving the bureaucrats with nothing.
Thus, all possible human sins are collected in the Auditor. It is not easy for Nikolai to end the comedy with a silent scene. Only with such a technique can one sum up the final risk, once again further emphasize all the shortcomings and features of the character of the characters, and indicate that any evil does not go unpunished!
